America who was under the worst economic situation since the Great Depression.
He led a revolution, known today as the Reagan Revolution, based on a few simple ideals: to free Americans from big government and the world from communist suppression.
He brought to the table an innovative yet controversial economic plan that included tax cuts, lowering inflation and government spending. Although for a few months the plan seem to keep the country in the recession that it was in, the economy’s recovery turned into a boom that lasted for the next 8 years and won Reagan his re-election.
Unlike his predecessors, Reagan never feared the Soviet Union. His determination to destroy communism and the Soviet Union was the highlight of his presidency. By the end of his presidency he had played a major role both in the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War that lasted decades.
Like any other president, Reagan had his ups and downs but it was his optimism, modesty and his firm belief in American possibility that makes him in my opinion the greatest and most inspirational president this country has ever had.
Reagan wanted to go down in history as the President who made Americans believe in themselves again. And he did. As the Great Communicator that he was, Reagan was able to restore America’s spirit with ideas for growth, hope and opportunity; by showing us that great things can come from within us.
